AERONET SUX (ENGLISH ONLY!)

I am planning to get AERONET , it's wireless as you prolly know and they ask 39.99$ for 512kbps , 59.99$ for 1mbit and 99.99$ for 3mbits plus 299$ install, what do you guys think ? are they good or bad , is there anyone who is currently using it? please let me know... I don't wanna get it and then get F... UP , plus it's for area san gerardo, since there is no adelphia available now.

I have read many good things about them here, BUT they dont provide public IP's for home users, and that sucks. If I were you, I would wait for Adelphia, but if broadband is urgent to you Aeronet can be a good choice.

They told me , MEGA net doesn't provide public IPs, I didn't know AERONet was also not providing public IPs

I believe aeronet now offers dynamic public IPs with a lifespan of 5 days instead of PRTDSL's 6 hours, and having a private IP doesn't matter in anything unless you attempt to run some kind of server, P2P, Games, etc, should work flawlessly.

sorry I just read what I typed, my bad. ALL P2P services and games work just fine under aeronet, however if you attempt to run an emule server or a torrent seed, instead of the normal file sharing THEN you will run into troubles. Bittorrent, kazaa, edonkey/emule/overnet. All work fine under aeronet. Since you get a private IP all ports are open by default you must secure your line.

This is not true. I have seen my IP address stay the same over a few days in PRTDSL.

Bueno luisr, si tienes acceso a tu modem fijate en el IP, la linea se cae a las 6 horas a veces cojes otro IP , a veces no, llamo y pregunto y me dicen que ese es el renew del IP, que de 72 horas lo mudaron a 6.

Si no me crees llama al 707-1771 (ya me lo se de memoria aprieta el 1 luego el 4 para apoyo tecnico DSL), y pregunta "oye mi coneccion se cae cada 6 horas" y te van a decir "si es que el IP esta programado para que coja uno nuevo cada 6 horas" No te ocurrira a ti pero a muchas personas les esta pasando lo mismo. Asi que por que tu no lo experimentes no significa que no sea cierto.

I'm sorry about that, what I was saying is that, luisr is saying that what i'm saying about the IP in PRTDSL is not true. However because he does not have the problem, it does not mean it does not exist. I called various times because my DSL connection would reset every 6 hours and usually refresh the IP other times it would not, however all they kept saying is that the lines are programmed to renew their IP every 6 hours instead of the normal 72 hours they were programmed for originally.

I remember having a similar problem to the one you describe, actually, my DSL was resetting IPs too, I can't say how often but, it was resetting, maybe twice or once in a day

I have never noticed this problem happen in two and a half months of usage. My IP address is probably resetting when I am not active online. And I never turn off the modem.

What is it that you see? Suddenly all your connections start to fail for a few moments? I have seen this only happen if I connect via dial-up while DSL is connected for testing purposes. ICQ gets crazy, for instance.

finally this monday i got my cable modem service provided by Centennial i got the 512/128 package and i have just one thing to say: DAMN IT I LOVE IT!!!!

Dont get me wrong I know what I'm talkin about i have been PRTDSL client for 2 and a half years and yes the first 1 and half year where great but after that i start having problmes and tech suport form PRT really sucks. the point is that i get tired of makin phonecalls and the no solution at my problmes.....and then it comes the damn RENEW of IPs every 6 frikin hours, that whats the last thing....i dont know why luisr says thats not true, but my friend u are so wrong there is a danm renew of ip's, sometimes there is a renew but your ip doesnt chage but still it happens.......i have see it with my eyes i have acces to my 2 modems and it happens every 6 frinkin hours, so dont say its not true i have read lots of the forum post and u are a newbie to DSL so dont assume things cause it isnt happenning to you.......dont get DSL go to aeronet or cable

i see my uptime clock 5:59:59, then 6:00:00 then public ip vanish and 5 seconds later ip is back either a new one or the same and my uptime clock start again in 0:00:01......

if you wonder about the uptime clock i have my own DSL modem a Vigor2600WE maybe u know about it cause lots of people here have that modem. Vigor modem has 2 clocks: a System uptime Clock; this one measures the time modem in on;

then it has a Uptime Clock that measures the time you are online, if the ip renew doesnt happen why is that my system uptime its 291:58:06 and my frikin uptime clock never pass from 5:59:59?? u know why???

I think we're straying a bit from the topic here. Be it one day, 6 hours or 3 hours, dhcp servers configured for dynamic IP's are set to renew the client's IP's every certain hours. Adelphia's dhcp server is configured for 3 hour leases, I've had the service for a month now and my address has never changed. It's probably beause there's not a high demand for IP addresses on their servers and because I haven't shut off my modem for more than a few minutes at a time. PRTC has different lease times for their coqui and prtc accounts, but there *shouldn't* be a problem when your modem tries to renew it's lease.

That's not necessarily true, not all p2p services and games work under NAT conditions. They only work if the correct ports are being forwarded to your private IP.

Under NAT conditions, of these clients you mention can connect to the server, but they certainly don't work fine. Download speeds are greatly affected if the correct ports aren't forwarded to your machine. Although these clients do connect, they remain in "firewalled" mode, which is not as effective. That is, of course, until you forward the correct ports.

If there's a 1-1 mapping between private and public IP's then that certainly is the case. For example like with DSL, your modem receives a public IP and translates to private IP's on your local network. I read a post here that even though MegaNet gives their clients private IP's, they will forward ports to your machine upon special request.

It's my understanding that aeronet gives their clients public IP's, if their modem is NAT enabled (like prtc modems) then even though your machine receives a private IP you're not really getting a private IP from their server, you're just doing NAT.
